PREACHING SCHEDULE Brother Rick Popejoy of Ardmore, Oklahoma, has accepted a position in Wellington, TX and will not preach for us on May 26. Our Evangelist on Sunday, June 2 -Edward Ross from Boise, Idaho.
THANK YOU 9th and Main has come through with a giving heart (as usual). We now have $120 for groceries to go to the Cherokee Home for Children. This will be a big help with their work. Our thanks to Sister Geraldine Triplett for her donation of a carpet sweeper and a "new and improved" coffee maker for the fellowship kitchen. We also thank her for the donation towards the purchase of a digital camera. Our camera fund presently has $251.00 in it, so we still need donations for that. We also need a 19-inch color TV and VCR. If anyone has one or both of these items, in working order, to donate, we will greatly appreciate it. ** The editor would like to add thanks to Mildred Mason for allowing us to use her poetry in the bulletin. Remember too, that Jacob Gamez, son of Osiel and Barbara Gamez will be graduating from Lakeview High also. Congratulations to Heather for her many exemplary achievements. Our prayers and best wishes go with both Heather and Jacob: May God's love shine forth in the choices you make for your lives and may He bless you and protect you always.

From the Pen of EDDIE HOWARD.... | |
"I was glad when they said to me, let us go unto the house of the Lord." Psalms 122:1 If David were living today he would find that not all God's people would share the above sentiment with him. There are probably more divergent views on attendance of the services of the church than any other one topic. I have read many articles on it. Preachers often judge the strength of a congregation by the percentage of attendance on the part of the members on the rolls. Those who don't attend services regularly console themselves with this "great argument: "Well, just attending church services never saved anyone." And some say that they try to live their Christianity during the week and not just on Sunday. This is all well and good. In fact, I don't know of very many preachers or "attendees" who are urging those who do not attend to believe that attending alone saves anybody, And I might add that I am skeptical of anyone who speaks of his good works during his working week who has so little interest in worship on his day off! Could it be that we are arguing about a straw man? The real issue is not whether you "sign the attendance slip", "turn you name tag over", or " punch in on the worship clock". It really comes down to how I feel about my Lord's desire that I meet Him at His table (Matt. 26:26-29; ICor. 11: 18-34). The real issue is how do I feel about my family in Christ? Do I enjoy being with them? Do I appreciate the encouragement I get from them and do I encourage them? Here is the great questions of fellowship in worship. The early church took every opportunity they could find to be together. They wanted to study together , to pray together, to eat together, to suffer together, and together share Christ with their world. It is not a question of how many times can I miss and still be counted a member there. The issue at stake is how much do I love the lord, His work, and His people. If I really love Him, I'll be with Him and His people whenever and where ever they, we meet. Will we see you Sunday, I truly hope so? I'll be better for it and I believe you will too. |
