The Power Is In The Seed

A farmer handed his son a small bag of seeds and instructed him to plant them in the garden. As he had been at it an unusually long time, the father went to discover the cause of the delay. He observed the boy in the garden with his slingshot taking careful aim at every hill before shooting the seed. Into the soil. The lad explained that he thought his method would make the seeds grow better. The wise father commented, "The power of growth, my son, is not in your slingshot, but in the seed.
Although there is never an excuse for presenting the Gospel in an uncaring or lackadaisical way, we do need to remember that the true power is in the message and not in the method. Paul said, "I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation..." (Rom. 1:16) Anyone who stands before others to teach should present God's word in a worthy manner. However, if we give more emphasis to the delivery than to the message delivered, we have missed the mark.
As listeners, we should be more concerned - that the words being spoken are true rather than entertaining or riveting. When we spend more effort critiquing the technique instead of applying the truth, we are missing the most important aspect of the message.
When the word of God is sown into an honest heart, the power of the seed will be sufficient to do the work that God intended it to do. Let us never forget the truth.

Answer to last week's BIBLE question:

  • Asa was the king of Judah who had a crippling foot disease. (I Kings 15:23)

This weeks question:

  • Who is the first person, mentioned by name, killed by God for being wicked?

        Answer next week.

"Thanks - Your Kindness Brightened My Day."

Thank you all so much for the food, visits, cards and well wishes. Especially we thank you for the prayers and hope you will continue those.

In Christian Love,
/s/ Lucy & Jim Vinson

"Thank You" notes have been received from all three Children's homes for our January donation.

The January financial statement is on the bulletin board.

Our new "young adult" class met for the first time on Sunday with five people present. We have high expectations for this class. There are no strict age requirements, so if you consider yourself to be a young adult - come on in.

An empty church building is not compatible with the message of the empty tomb.

COMING EVENTS

February 19 Following Wednesday night Bible study we will have a "so long" cake and ice cream hour for Gayle Cheek. We all need to come out and encourage Gayle as she leaves for active duty with the U.S. Army.

February 24 Gayle Cheek, having been called up to active duty status, reports to Fort Huachuca, Arizona for an indefinite period.

March 9 Brother Eddie Howard will be our speaker while Bro. Hobbs is in Oklahoma conducting a Gospel meeting. Let's all be present to hear Eddie teach and preach. He will also be with us on Wednesday, March 12th.

March 12 Brother Eddie Howard will be with us to teach the adult Bible class.

April 03 Lubbock children's home truck will be here. More on this later.

From the pen of JOHN HOBBS....

OUR FIRST LEADERSHIP DINNER

If you were one of the 55 people who came to our first dinner, on February 1, I am sure you enjoyed it as much as I did. We had a great speaker, great food, and great discussions.

Brother Gary Hill gave a great speech on "Leadership." He talked about what is involved in great leadership> He had many interesting points. We appreciate the fact that he is against the "change agents" in our brotherhood.

Mary Etta did a great job cooking. We appreciate all those who helped: Dennis, Ginger, Lois Mike, Brenda, Mary, Jim, Charlene and several others that I forgot. We appreciate Cattie, Daphne, Steven and Paden stuffing and sealing the letters of invitation to our next potluck. We appreciate Paden, Amber and Rakki for putting cards in the pews. We appreciate Ed & JoNell for coming to the building early and bring extra pots & pans, and preparing the dining room.

I thought the groups had some very valuable comments. Now, we need to work on the "needs" of the congregation.

We are joyful over Amber McCall's decision to become a Christian Sunday, February 2. We pray God's richest blessings on her as she starts her eternal journey!

May God bless us all as we seek to do His will.

In Christian Love,
