        Living The Way We Pray

I knelt to pray when day was done
And prayed: "O Lord, bless everyone
Lift from each heart the pain,
And let the sick be well again
And then I woke one day,
And carelessly went on my way,
The whole day long I did not try
To wipe a tear from any eye.
I did not try to share the load
Of any brother on the road;
I did not even go to see
The sick man just next door to me.
Yet once again when day was done
I prayed: "O Lord, bless everyone."
But as I prayed, to my ear
There came a voice that whispered clear:
Pause, hypocrite, before you pray:
Whom have you tried to bless today"
God's sweetest blessings always go
By hands that serve him here below."
And then I hid my face and cried:
"Forgive me God for I have lied,
Let me be live another day,
And I will live the way I pray."

  • Answer to last week's BIBLE question: There were about 3000 people baptized on the day of Pentecost. (Acts 2:41)
  • This week's question: What king of Judah suffered from a crippling foot disease?
  • Answer next week.

All who missed our first annual Leadership Dinner last Saturday night missed a real treat.

It was worth the trip just to hear the speaker's address, but when you add in a great free meal and a frank and honest discussion of the work of the church, it was truly a valuable experience.

During our group discussions we identified several areas of weakness where we have particular needs. We will be hearing more about those in coming weeks. We also identified some strengths, of which we can all be proud, but not content. We will also be hearing about those in the future.

If you have a concern for some area of work, or the absence of, please jot it down on a piece of paper and hand it to an elder. It will be considered - guaranteed.

Man's way leads to hopeless end - God's way leads to an endless hope.

Give God what's right - not what's left.

COMING EVENTS

February 9 All church pot-luck friendship meal. Don't miss it. Immediately after the meal we will have our bi-monthly men's business meeting.

February 9 Inaugural of our new "young Adult" class. We need to encourage and pray for our young people. It's tough growing up in our world today with so many attractive temptations.

February 19 Following Wednesday night Bible study we will have a "so long" cake and ice cream hour for Gayle Cheek. We all need to come out and encourage Gayle as she leaves for active duty with the U.S. Army.

February 24 Gayle Cheek, having been called up to active duty status, reports to Fort Huachuca, Arizona for an indefinite period.

March 9 Brother Eddie Howard will be our speaker while Bro. Hobbs is in Oklahoma conducting a Gospel meeting. Let's all be present to hear Eddie teach and preach. He will also be with us on Wednesday, March 12th.

Did you know that the largest army actually assembled in the Bible was the army of Zerah the Ethiopian, who had a host of one million which he brought against King Asa. (II Chron.. 14:9), and the largest specific number is the army of 200 million horsemen mentioned in Revelation. 9:16 (KJV)

From the pen of JOHN HOBBS....

Last Chance: This Saturday Feb. 1, 5:00 P.M.

THIS SUNDAY: POTLUCK AFTER MORNING SERVICES

This Sunday, February 9, immediately after the morning worship services, we will have a potluck meal. This is an opportune time to invite someone to services! Invite someone to come!

This Sunday we are also starting a college/young professionals class. Lance Modawell and Austin Hobbs will be co-teaching the class. We are looking forward to great things from this class.

Let us all determine in 2003 to make Bible class a central element in our lives. We are to live "By every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God" (Matthew 4:4). We want to see your smiling face in Bible class as a regular participant.

       May God Bless you.

In Christian Love,
John Hobbs

Do You Attend Bible Class?

Many do not. And it is difficult to figure out why! A few observations:

  1. It is necessary for us to study the Bible. "Make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue and virtue with knowledge…" (II Peter 1:15) "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge" (Hosea 4:6)

  2. Bible study presents an opportunity to see ourselves as God sees us, (James 1:23-25)

  3. We need to gain knowledge with which to teach others, (Hebrews 5:12)

  4. Bible study feeds our souls. "Like newborn babes, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up to salvation." (I Peter 2:2)

There is something wrong with a man physically when he loses all interest in food; and there is something wrong with a man spiritually when he loses interest in the Bible. (Borrowed)
