"I can worship Him on the golf course"

A few years ago I was talking to a fellow about his lack of church attendance. When asked why he didn't attend, he responded: "Sunday is my only day off so I spend it playing golf. Besides, I can worship Him on the golf course."
I then said to him, yes in a way, you can worship God on the golf course...but do you?
He was silent for a moment. Then, almost in a whisper, he said, "No, my mind is on the game."
If your mind was on God where would you be on Sundays? I asked.
That ended our conversation for that day. But the next Sunday he was back at church and confessed his sin of unfaithfulness.
While a person can pray to God and sing His praises outside the meeting of the congregation, if he is truly spiritual, he will assemble with the saints unless providentially hindered.
"Forsake not the assembling, as is the habit of some. (Hebrews 10:25)

  • Answer to last week's question: Moses was in the land of Midian when he saw a burning bush which was not consumed. (Ex 2:14, 3:1-2)
  • This week's question: How many were baptized on the day of Pentecost?
  • Answer next week.

Gossip, Remember Me?

They call me gossip. I have no respect for justice, I maim without killing. I break hearts and ruin lives, I am cunning and malicious, and gather strength with age. The more I am quoted, the more I am believed. I flourish at every level of society. My victims are helpless. They cannot protect themselves against me because I have no name and no face. To track me down is impossible. The harder you try, the more elusive I become. I am nobody's friend. Once I tarnish a reputation, it is never the same. I make innocent people cry in their pillows. Yes, they call me gossip!

Laura Neal has informed us that she and her family will be worshipping with another Congregation. Please remove their names from your directories.

A young woman named Angela Watson was baptized into Christ here at the building on Tuesday afternoon, Jan 21. She has not decided where her church home will be. Please keep Angela in your prayers.

COMING EVENTS

February 3-7 Medina Children's Home grocery truck will be here during this week. They suggest we give them Bleach, but will accept any other items we wish to give, and they always appreciate money.

February 9 All church pot-luck friendship meal. Don't miss it. Immediately after the meal we will have our bi-monthly men's business meeting.

February 9 Inaugural of our new "young Adult" class. We need to encourage and pray for our young people. It's tough growing up in our world today with so many attractive temptations.

February 19 Following Wednesday night Bible study we will have a "so long" cake and ice cream hour for Gayle Cheek. We all need to come out and encourage Gayle as she leaves for active duty with the U.S. Army.

February 24 Gayle Cheek, having been called up to active duty status, reports to Fort Huachuca, Arizona for an indefinite period.

March 9 Brother Eddie Howard will be our speaker while Bro. Hobbs is in Oklahoma conducting a Gospel meeting. Let's all be present to hear Eddie teach and preach. He will also be with us on Wednesday, March 12th.

Last Chance: This Saturday Feb. 1, 5:00 P.M.

This week is your last chance to make a decision on coming Saturday night. This will be our first annual Leadership Dinner. We will have a good meal, guest speaker, and then discuss the work of Ninth and Main. Everyone will have input! Our elders want your input. We hope to see your smiling face. Do Not bring anything to eat. Mary Etta and I will feed you! If you need a ride, somebody will be happy to pick you up and take you home. If you miss this, you will miss a lot and will regret it. You must let us know by Wednesday night, January 28. If you wish to come.

If you decide at the last minute, call us at 915-695-9804, as we need to know how much food to prepare.

Gary Hill, a good friend of mine, will be our guest speaker. He has served as an elder of one of the largest congregations in our brotherhood. You will enjoy his lesson.

We will be inviting visitors to our leadership dinner. There are some folks who have been attending services on a frequent basis.

On a different subject - we plan to start a Bible class for college students and recent graduates on February 9!
