IT ONLY TAKES A MINUTE...

...to stop and say a few words to the newcomer, that you have passing by, with a quick "hello".

...to draw a person who is obviously feeling like an outsider into a chattering group.

...to make an introduction, that may not be necessary, but that will demonstrate friendliness.

...to write a note to a person who is ill, or who has lost a member of the family.

...to really listen to what a child is earnestly telling you.

...to take the trouble to pass along the good things that you know about others.

...to build up a person who is feeling low, or seems to be worried or discouraged.

  • Answer to last week's question: The immoral Samaritan woman had been married five times (John 4:17-18).
  • This week's question: In what land was Moses when he saw a burning bush which was not consumed?
  • Answer next week.

We informed you in the December 10 bulletin (Bulletin #36) that Carolyn Turk's brother, John, was in University of Mississippi hospital to undergo surgery on his jaw. It was feared at that time that he might be unable to speak following the surgery.
The surgery has been performed and John is back at home. He is able to speak and Carolyn has spoken to him at least once. He is scheduled for chemo and radiation treatments.
That family needs our prayers as much as ever. Let's pray for them.

Crystal Reed came forward Sunday morning to confess that she has made some mistakes in her life recently, and asked for our prayers that she will have strength to overcome those temptations that are sure to befall her each day.

Although he was not hospitalized, we have learned that Mike Turk had a bout with pneumonia recently.

A hug is a great gift...one size fits all, it can be given for any occasion and it's easy to exchange!

COMING EVENTS

February 1 First annual All Church Leadership Banquet. Everyone is invited and we will have a guest speaker. See additional information in Bro. Hobbs article. Please see Mary Etta and get your name on the list by Wednesday, Jan. 29.

February 3-7 Medina Children's Home grocery truck will be here during this week. They suggest we give them Bleach, but will accept any other items we wish to give, and they always appreciate money.

February 9 All church pot-luck friendship meal. Don't miss it. Immediately after the meal we will have our bi-monthly men's business meeting.

February 9 Inaugural of our new "young Adult" class. We need to encourage and pray for our young people. It's tough growing up in our world today with so many attractive temptations.

February 24 Gayle Cheek, having been called up to active duty status, reports to Fort Huachuca, Arizona for an indefinite period.

March 9 Brother Eddie Howard will be our speaker while Bro. Hobbs is in Oklahoma conducting a Gospel meeting. Let's all be present to hear Eddie teach and preach. He will also be with us on Wednesday, March 12th.

From the pen of JOHN HOBBS....

YOU ARE WANTED IN BIBLE CLASS

At Ninth and Main, we have Bible classes each Sunday morning at 9:30 A.M and Wednesday night at 7:00 P.M. We Want You!!

Bible study is very important. Hosea said, "My people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge" (Hosea 4:6). We are commanded to "grow in knowledge" (II Peter 3:15). Paul said, "Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God" (Romans 10:17).

We are told to build up our faith in Jude 20. The way we do this is to study God's word. Psalms 119:11 says, "Thy word have I laid up in my heart, that I might not sin against thee." God's word directs our way (Psalms 119:105). We are to live "by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God" (Matthew 4:4).

Since we will be judged by the word of God (John 12:48), let us study it diligently!

We hope to see your smiling face in Bible School! You will be blessed by doing so.

In Christian Love,
