The Devil's Beatitudes

Blessed are they who are too tired and busy to go to worship on Sunday, for they are my best workers.

Blessed are they who are bored with the preacher's mistakes and mannerisms, for they get nothing from the sermon.

Blessed are they who gossip, for they cause strife and divisions which please me.

Blessed is the church member who expects to be treated with importance, for he is important to me.

Blessed are those who do not give of their means to carry on God's work and missions, for they are my helpers.

Blessed are the troublemakers for they shall be called the children of the devil.

Blessed is he who professes to love God but hates his brother, for he shall be with me forever.

Blessed is he who has no time for prayer, for he will be an easy prey!

From the pen of JOHN HOBBS....

The Baby Jesus

Christmas season causes people to think about nativity scenes and the baby Jesus. The birth of a baby brings joy and happiness. One women said, "There is nothing like a new baby in the house". How true!! Thinking about the baby Jesus certainly intensifies these feelings.

It is impossible to go through a Christmas season without seeing pictures of the baby Jesus. Everyone loves to think about the baby Jesus. How sweet! How wonderful! But, people either forget or willfully forget what this same baby Jesus is going to demand of all people. This is something people do not want to think about. In Matthew 10: 34-36 Jesus said, "Think not that I came to send peace on earth; I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I came to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law: and a man's foe's shall be they of his own household." Notice carefully Jesus came to bring a sword! Jesus came to divide families.

Following Jesus on this earth is not always going to bring joy, peace, and happiness. Sometimes following Jesus will cause families to divide and separate. I dated a girl in college who was disowned by her family because she became a Christian. Did she do right? Yes! On judgment day she will be eternally glad she followed the Lord. The way to heaven is "narrow" and "strait" and "few are they that find it" (Matthew 7: 13-14) People like to think about the baby Jesus but not about these truths.

During this Christmas season let us remember the demands of Jesus that he places on all people! As Jesus was facing the cross He offered up to God "strong crying and tears." He sweated "great drops of blood." He was in intense "agony". But, he was obedient unto the death of the cross (Phil. 2:8). Let us follow His example (I Peter 2:21).

In Christian Love,
