COMPARATIVE FAITH

"To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow His steps." (I Peter2:21).

Each of us is called by the same message (II Thess. 2:14) and to the same level of commitment. The above scripture has four distinct lessons for us as we evaluate our lives in the grace of the Lord Jesus.
(Lesson three last week)

(2) We walk where Jesus walked.
No, we do not have to go to Jerusalem or Galilee and walk in His steps, but we do have to follow Him. The feet of Jesus will take us to people who don't like us, people who are not like us, and to people who, like us are living in vain ways like we used to walk. If I can just remember what I was like when I wasn't a Christian, perhaps I can retrace those steps to reach the lost. We must begin to learn h9ow to walk alongside sinful people in order to "call" them to a loving God. Listen to the call again, "cross" your heart, look at Jesus, and go in grace.

How Do You Define Sin? (Part Two)

In Jeremiah 2:35 Jeremiah records the words of the nation of Judah. Here Judah says "Because I am innocent surely His anger shall turn from me." And, "I have not sinned." Notice Judah declared herself "innocent" and defiantly said, "I have not sinned." But the bottom line is, she was not innocent and had sinned. The problem was she could not recognize her sin.

In Jeremiah 8:6 God says, "I hearkened and heard, but they spake not aright: no man repented him of his wickedness saying, What have I done?" with the implied answer: Nothing wrong or sinful. Again, Judah's problem was she could not recognize sin.

Because Judah would not recognize her sin, she was not going to repent. Because she was not going to repent, God was going to punish and chastise her. This He did in 586 B.C. when the Babylonians destroyed Jerusalem and killed many Jews and took many others into captivity.

This is a great history lesson for us (Rom. 15:4; I Cor. 10:6,11). If we refuse to recognize sin in our lives we will not repent. If we do not repent we will lose our souls. (Luke 13:3)

Let us all be open to the possibility that something might be amiss in our lives. Let us examine ourselves a Paul told us to do. (II Cor. 13:5). On judgment Day it will be too late to repent and make changes.

Someday soon I will preach a lesson on the subject of repentance.

       May God bless you.

In Christian Love,
