COMPARITIVE FAITH

"To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow His steps." (I Peter2:21).

Each of us is called by the same message (II Thess. 2:14) and to the same level of commitment. The above scripture has four distinct lessons for us as we evaluate our lives in the grace of the Lord Jesus.

(1) We are called by God's grace. Jesus came seeking the lost (Luke 19:10). He came to our house of flesh. God came down to see us where we were and to give us a message that called us into relationship with the Father through Him. Even, as his cousin, John came "calling" as one in the wilderness. Jesus came also to call us from our pitiful lives. "Come to me, ALL of yo who are tired and burdened with sin and vanity of life. (Matthew 11:28). Have you ever just been bored at home and someone called on the phone and said, "Hey, let's go...." Well, that's how it is with God. He called to let us know there is something better to do with our time. It's His initiative, His idea, His .

Fellowship Room

Work has begun on remodeling and enlarging our fellowship room. This will give us a great deal of additional space so when we have a meal, we will not have to "step over" each other.
In conjunction with this enlargement, we will be needing approximately 6 more folding tables. If anyone would like to donate a table, or make a donation towards the purchase of one, just make your check out to the church and mark it "TABLE". It is estimated that each table will cost about $100.00.
Work is scheduled to be completed before our next fellowship potluck on December 1.

Thank You

"During a time like this we realize how much our family and friends mean to us.
Thank you so much for the beautiful fall arrangement of flowers. They were greatly appreciated, and your expression of sympathy will always be remembered by the family of Thelma Wiley."

"Thank You" notes have been received from Cherokee, Medina and New Mexico Children's homes for our October support.

   Artificial Worship

Artificial respiration is well Known to the average household in America. If a heart failure is apparent, artificial means may save a life. How may our hearts be stimulated? should we leave the word of God for man-made procedures? Years ago I sat in an audience of several hundred brethren and listened to the preacher talk about the Lord's supper. He laughed and joked about "three songs and a prayer." He ranted about simply changing procedure. He thought weak hearts could be revived by artificial means. We know that the routine does not stimulate the bible heart. For over sixty-five years I have been taking the Lord's supper and it never occurred to me that I might be engaging in a ritual.

My mind at the Lord's table, goes back over two thousand years to the death of Christ. It never dawned on me that the order of the worship had anything to do with the solemnity of the Lord's supper. For over thirty years I have visited the graves of my mother and father. I need no artificial means to stir memories at the grave side. It makes no difference which gate I enter the cemetery or the direction I approach the graves. The denominations use candles, shout and burn incense, use quartets, solos, testify and play the organ. Paul said, "Let a man examine himself and so let him eat." May God have mercy on us if we have to have some artificial form to stir our memories.

From the pen of JOHN HOBBS....

A TALE OF TWO MEN

Several years ago, I preached for a church where "Clem" and "Eddie" attended. Clem and Eddie and I disagreed many times on the decisions of the church to promote the work and worship of the church. However, there was a great difference between Clem and Eddie. Clem was a worker. He was involved with the visitation program, helped with our evangelistic outreach program, and whenever a workday was called on Saturday, Clem was always there.

Clem was also a big financial contributor. Eddie, on the other hand, did nothing. He was never on one committee and was never involved in any program of the church. All he wanted to do was come to the business meetings and gripe and complain. He wanted things done his way and became very upset when things did not go his way.

I am sure it will not surprise anyone when I say that I had respect for Clem but none for Eddie. Even though Clem and I disagreed many times, I had tremendous respect for him. However, for Eddie I had absolutely no respect. Clem was a worker and involved. Eddie was not a worker and was not involved.

Do you agree with me? I am sure you do!

The question we all need to ask is: "Are we a Clem or an Eddie?" I believe the elders should listen to people like Clem but not to people like Eddie.

        Do you agree?

May God bless and Keep you.
