GROWING UP IN CHRIST

Growth is vitally important in every phase of life - physically, mentally, emotionally, socially and spiritually. The idea of growth is to increase or become bigger. Notice these ideas of growth in the New Testament.

>The increase of the Lord (John 3:30) John said, "He must increase, but I must decrease."
>The increase of the Gospel (Acts 6:7), "And the word of God increased" (Acts 12:24). "but the word of God grew and multiplied." It ought to be obvious this growth came about as a result of personal teaching and preaching by the early Christians.
>Our faith is said to grow (2 Thess. 1:3), Paul complimented the Thessalonian church "because that your faith groweth exceedingly."
>We are commanded to grow (2 Peter 3:18), "But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ." We are bidden by Peter to "as new born babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that you may grow thereby" (1 Peter 2:2)

A smile costs nothing, but gives much. It enriches those who give it. It takes but a moment, but the memory of it sometimes lasts forever.
None is so rich or mighty that he can get along without it, and none is so poor but that he cannot be made richer by it. A smile creates happiness in the home, promotes goodwill in business and is the cornerstone of friendship.
When people are too tired to give you a smile, give them one of your. No one needs a smile so much as he who has none to give. It cannot be bought, borrowed, begged or stolen, for it is something of no value until it is given away.

Our Thanks once again to Bro. Eddie Howard who so willingly and capably filled in for Bro. Hobbs. As usual, Eddie presented us with two great messages.

The "In Search of the Lord's Way" TV program has issued an appeal for funds to update their equipment in order to keep up with changing technologies.
If you care to donate to this good cause, you can make your check out to the church, or send it directly. In either case be sure to mark your check "Update" so that it will be put to the intended use.
The appeal letter is posted on the bulletin board.

Did you know that ferry boats were used even in Old Testament times?
II Samuel 19:16-18 tells us; "And Shimei... came down with the men of Judea to meet King David...and they went over Jordan before the king. And there went over a ferry boat to carry over the king's household."

ME?

When the church seems dead
        and the work is slow.
When the attendance is off
        and songs too low.
When the prayers of the saints
        lack fervor and power
When the preacher's sermons
        seem stale and sour
Why not pause with self-examining eye,
        and ask . . . . "LORD, IS IT I?"

From the pen of JOHN HOBBS....

"Woe To Them That Are At Ease In Zion"

Truth is the word of God (John 17:17). Truth will make us free from sin (John 8:32). Error will save no one!

In Revelations 3:16 Jesus told the church at Laodicea that He would "Spew" them out of His mouth. Why? Because these brethren had no zeal for the Lord and His truth. They were "lukewarm" and caught up other things which required their attention.

It is possible that brethren can get caught up in the affairs of the world so that they neglect the most important things (Matt. 16:27). Not only is it possible--unfortunately many brethren get caught up in the "pleasures of the world" and become "lukewarm" towards the Lord and what God has said. Long ago God warned His people "Woe to them that are at ease in Zion" (Amos 6:1). When brethren become indifferent to the truth of God's word, they will receive the wrath of God (John 3:36; Romans 2:5-9, Eph. 5:6; II Thess. 1:8-9; Rev. 20:12-13). How sad!

Every day that goes by we are one day closer to eternity! True? Let us be prepared to enter eternity. Those who put God first in their lives are wise and prepared (Luke 12;16-21; Matt 24:1-13). Those who do not put God first are foolish and unprepared.

Let us strive to be prepared for that day when our life on this earth comes to an end. Remember it is one day closer than it was yesterday. We ourselves decide whether or not we will be prepared (Joshua 24:15)

In Christian Love,
