Nothing In Particular

There are probably not very many folks who come to worship expecting a religious handout; rather, not knowing what to expect, they find themselves unprepared to receive what the Lord stands prepared to give. The problem, then would not be related to a lack of concern, but to a lack of focus. An illustration:
A man went hunting one autumn day for nothing in particular. He came upon some deer tracks and followed them. Later, the tracks were crossed by some made by a fox. The fox was followed until the tracks were crossed by those of a rabbit. The rabbit was followed until a set of mouse tracks crossed the rabbit's. And the mouse was followed until it became too dark to track anything at all.
At the end of the day, the man found that he had brought back just what he set out for: nothing in particular!
When coming to worship, is there a clear idea of purpose? Is there a sense of direction? A focus? Know what the Lord has in store for those who love Him. Come with a spirit of anticipation. Come with a sense of expectation.
Don't come hunting for nothing in particular. You may bring back just what you set out for.
"One thing I ask of the Lord, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord....and seek Him in His temple"(Psalms 27:4)

FOOD FOR THOUGHT....

Most of the stumbling blocks people complain about are under their hats.

Ideas are funny little things - they don't work unless you do.

Wisdom is divided into two parts; first, having great deal to say, and second, not saying it.

Life has many choices. Eternity has two. What's yours?

Our words may hide our thoughts, but our actions will reveal them.

The organizational meeting for our new visitation program on Sunday night was very well attended. Even so, we realize there are some who want to be involved who could not attend. If you are one of those, just ask the preacher or any member who was there and they can explain the program to you. It is very simple.

All that is being asked of us is that we make one visit per month. If each of us do that, we are bound to make a difference.

The Greatest of All
  • My greatest loss, to lose my soul.
  • My greatest gain, Christ as my Saviour.
  • My greatest object, to glorify God.
  • My greatest price, a crown of glory.
  • My greatest work, to win souls for Christ.
  • My greatest joy, the joy of god's salvation.
  • My greatest inheritance, heaven and its glories.
  • My greatest neglect, the neglect of so great salvation.
  • My greatest crime, to reject Christ the only Saviour.
  • My greatest privilege, power to become a child .
  • My greatest bargain, to lose all things to win Christ.
  • My greatest profit, godliness in this life and that to come.
  • My greatest peace, the peace that passeth understanding.
  • My greatest knowledge, to know God and Jesus Christ whom He hath sent.

From the pen of JOHN HOBBS....

WHAT I OWE MY HOME CONGREGATION

        1) Faithful Attendance - (Hebrews 10:25) Whatever reason you give for not attending, give it to the Lord--not me! A love for the Lord that is so weak that it will not take one to worship God will be love not strong enough to take us to heaven.
2)Godly Living - (Matthew 5:13-16) We need to radiate a Christian example. We need to be careful how we live because we may be the only Bible that some people ever read.
        3) Friendliness To Visitors - (Hebrews 13:2) "Forget not to show love unto strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares."
        4) Obedience To the Elders - (Hebrews 13:7,17) As long as the elders follow Christ, we must follow them. We must never give "blind obedience." We must never get upset with them if they are trying to help us in our spiritual life, we must realize it is their responsibility.
        5) Regular and Faithful contribution - (I Corinthians 16:1-2) If we are out of town, we should make up our contribution. I was always taught that if I visited another congregation--put a dollar in the plate to show you believe in the practice. But, make up your regular contribution when you return home. Being absent does not give us a "free" Sunday. Does the Lord bless us "every week" or does He get an "off week" from blessing us?
        6) Constant Prayers - (I Thessalonians 5:17) We must continually pray for those inside the Church and those outside the Church. Proverbs 11:30 states, "He that winneth souls is wise."
        7) Constant Bible Study - (II Timothy 2:16, Acts 20:32) There is absolutely no substitute for Bible Study! The word of God can take us to heaven if we read it, study it, understand it, live it, and obey it.
        May God bless you.

In Christian Love,
