Motivated

People who have a saving faith in God will be motivated to please Him. "But with out faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him" (Hebrews 11:6). In Hebrews, chapter 11, the writer explains that Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Rahab, all pleased God because through their faith, they were motivated to obey Him no matter what the cost. The apostle Paul, one of the most motivated Christians of the first century, explains that his life was so motivated, not because he was self-motivated but because he was Christ-motivated (Galatians 2:20). The Philippian Christians were motivated to obey God, not because they believed in Paul, but because God motivated them - they believed in God (Philippians 2:12-13)
A faith that doesn't motivate is a dead faith (James 2:17). A church that isn't motivated or isn't actively doing the Lord's will is a dead church with a dead faith. So let's be active; let's be alive; let's be motivated-let's continue to grow in faith! "So faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God" (Romans 10:17).

Did you know the largest general number mentioned in the KJV is "thousands of millions."? Rebekah's family blessed her by saying "....be thou the mother of thousands of millions." (Gen 24:60)

We will have a considerable number of bags of food that need to be placed in the homes of some needy people. Bro. Vinson is doing a terrific job, but he still needs help. To make it even better, he has added bedroom shoes to the list of items which we can distribute to those in need.

If you know someone who would benefit from donated food - Please pick up a bag or two and see that they get it. If you yourself need food, do not hesitate to let someone know and we will see that you get it.

It was good to see Phillip Neal's smiling face in services Sunday morning. He is home on his mid-tour leave and will go back to Korea at the end of August. He will complete his tour there in six months. We wish him well.

We should pray for Phillip and his family, as well all the other military forces who serve, wherever they are needed, to protect our way of life. Also, don't forget to pray for the coalition forces who serve alongside our fellow Americans.

From the pen of JOHN HOBBS....

The first seven lessons I preached at 9th & Main dealt with the importance of Bible study. The second series of lessons that I will preach deals with the importance of prayer. If I can encourage every member to study the Bible and pray, by ministry will have been successful.

Let us consider some conditions for answered prayer:

  1. We cannot be selfish. (James 4:3)

  2. We must listen to God's word. (Proverbs 28:9)

  3. We must continually seek God's help. (Proverbs 1:24-31)

  4. We must be "in Jesus". (John 5:7)

  5. We must be "righteous". (I Peter 3:12)

  6. We must pray according to god's will. (I John 5:14-15)

  7. We must pray with faith. (James 1:6-7)

  8. We must be sincere. (Matthew 6:5-6)

  9. We must be humble. (Luke 18:9-14)

Do you know how many parables Jesus gave about prayer? The answer is two. We will study both of them during this series of sermons on prayer. The older I get, the more I realize the importance of prayer. Let us all strive to improve our prayer life.

In the last ten weeks, we have had nine people place membership with us. This is an extremely important positive growth sign. I am convinced that over the coming months, many more will place membership here with us.

On Sunday night, Auust 25th, immediately following evening services, we will have a short meeting to organize our new visitation program. We encourage everyone to help. We are only asking that each person make one visit per month. This is not very much to ask. The more who will work, the more we can do. "Many hands make light work."
