A Good Answer

The Bible says that we should have an answer for why we believe for those who ask us. This is a good example of an answer to one of the most common reasons sinners give for ignoring God.

A man went to barbershop to have his haircut. He started to have a conversation with his barber. After talking for a few minutes they touched on the subject of God. The Barber said, "I don't believe that God exists." "Why?" asked the customer. "Well, that is easy, if God existed would there be so many sick people and so many bad things happening? I just can't think of a loving God who permits all of these things."

Not wanting to start an argument, the customer kept quiet, but upon leaving the barbershop he saw a man with long hair and beard. He went back to the same barber and said, "You know, barbers do not exist." "How can you say they do not exist? I am a barber and here I am".

"No! if barbers existed, there would be no people with long, untidy hair and beards like the man I just saw walking down the street."

"Ah, barbers do exist. What happens is that people do not come to me." " Exactly," affirmed the client, "That's the point. God does exist. What happens is that people don't go to Him and do not look for Him. That's why there is so much pain and suffering in the world.".

Answer to last week's question.

  • The Canaanite city conquered by Joshua, which had a two letter name that means "ruined" is the city of Ai (Joshua chapters 7-12) [What Canaanite city, conquered by Joshua, had a two letter name that means "ruined"?]

This weeks Bible question:

     Study of the word. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
The Bible is a singular book, indeed. It answers the basic questions of life. For example, consider the following three questions: How can we have life more abundantly? How can we know that the testing of our faith is to make us whole and complete before the Lord? How can we be sure there is life after death? Satisfactory answers to these questions are to be found in the Bible, and in the Bible only. We need to understand that God speaks to us today through the Bible. That being the case, there is no way we can know what God's will is for us unless we study the Bible. Paul, the apostle, made a most interesting observation when he said ". . .for I know whom I have believed." Are you a student of the Bible and do you follow Christ?

Positive Notes for Daily Living

Can you name the ten most mentioned names in the New Testament. . . . . . . . . . . . .? In Order: a. Jesus, 2. Paul, 3. Peter, 4. John the Baptist, 5. Pontius Pilate (56 times), 6. John the Apostle, 7. Herod the Tetrarch (30), 8. Timothy, 9. Judas Iscariot, 10. Philip the deacon.

Brother Can You Paradigm?

What is a paradigm (pronounced pair-a-dime)?
Webster defines a paradim as, "a pattern or example."
Have you ever heard someone say, "We can't do that, we tried it once and it didn't work". Or how about, "We can't do that, we've never done it." While these might be true statements, they are simply human excuses for not attempting to make things better. How many worthwhile projects have not been done because of this kind of thinking.
Or maybe this, "I've always been on time for every service." Or, "I don't wait to be asked, I look for ways to serve."
What a difference!! What kind of examples are we?
Remember - "If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you have always got."

God Bless,
Ed

Quill Pen From the pen of John Hobbs:

Do We Really Believe Romans 8:18?

Romans 8:18, "For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed to us-ward."

This is a great Scripture! It is one of my favorites. I have quoted it often and will continue to quote it. The reason is simple! It helps us endure the sufferings hardships, problems, pains temptations and persecutions of this life. Christians look forward to the next life--not this one. Heaven is in the next life not this life! Paul said it was "very far better" to die and go be with Christ(Phil. 1:21).

Do we really believe that our true reward is in the next life? Jesus said, "Great is your reward in heaven" (Matthew 5:12). If we believe these verses, we will live for the Lord in this life an endure whatever suffering that may come our way in this life, in anticipation of the "glory" we will receive in heaven. Paul said, "If we endure we shall also reign with Him: If we shall deny Him, He also will deny us." (II Timothy 2:12).

James said, "Blessed is the man that endureth temptation, for when he hath been approved, he shall receive the crown of life" (Revelation 2:10)

If we believe Romans 8:18 and these scriptures, we will be motivated to fight the good fight of faith until the day we die. The best is yet to come for the faithful Christian. I believe these verses an I hope you do as well. May God bless you.
