Instrumental Music In Worship
With increasing
frequency I hear about congregations in the Churches of Christ
choosing to include musical instruments in the worship service.
As I read about their decisions, none present a biblical reason
for their decisions to add the instrument. These churches are
simply saying (1) God does not forbid its use, and (2) they like
it. It is appalling that in many instances members are saying
their elders have approved the use of instrumental music, thus
giving them the assurance that their actions are acceptable. When
were elders authorized to alter or compromise God's will? We must realize that
just because an elder of group
of elders state a policy, that does not mean God approves of it.
Read your Bible! Where did the apostasy start? From Acts 20:17-32
it was in the eldership!. We must not give "blind obedience" to
any group of elders. We must test any doctrine with the word of
God.(I John 4:1). The
Oak Hills church in
San Antonio recently took the name "Church of Christ" off their
sign. (Good! because they are not a Church of Christ). The elders
there stated in print that they had spent a year in study and
decided it was alright to use instrumental music in worship. But,
who are they? They are just men. They are not inspired. They
certainly are not very scholarly. I am not impressed with their
wisdom, logic and reasoning. Just because they say it is OK, does
that make it right? No! Let us call a spade a spade. They are false
teachers (Matt. 7:15) teaching false doctrine (II Timothy 4:2).
They are leaning upon their own understanding and not God's
word (Proverbs 3:5-6). Jeroboam changed the
correct worship and received God's punishment (I Kings II). The
same thing will happen to all who change the true worship (John
4:23-24).

our elders agree with this article.
