Lifting and Leaning

There are two kinds of people on earth today,
Just two kinds of people, no more, I say.

Not the good and the bad, for 'tis well understood
The good are half bad and the bad are half good.

Not the happy and sad, for the swift flying years
Bring each man his laughter and each man his tears.

Not the rich and the poor, for to count a man's wealth
You must first know the state of his conscience and health

Not the humble and proud, for in life's busy span
Who puts on vain airs ins not counted a man.

No! the two kinds of people on earth I mean
Are the people who lift and the people who lean.

Wherever you go you will find the world's masses
Are ever divided in just these two classes.

And strangely enough, you will find, too, I ween,
There is only one lifter to twenty who lean.

In which class are you? Are you easing the load
Of overtaxed lifters who toil down the road?

Or are you a leaner who lets others bear
Your portion of worry and labor and care?

Answer to last week's question.

  • Saul was made first king of Israel in the city of Gilgal. (I Samuel 10:8-24) [At what place was Saul made the first king of Israel?]

This weeks Bible question:

  • What biblical character married a prostitute named Gomer?

Answer next week.

"Dear Brethren,
I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for the recent decision to support our ministry for Children. As we continue to make improvements to our campus, the Operating expenses continue to grow.
Your decision reflects your confidence in us and that we are truly seeking The Lord's guidance in all we do.
We pray that God continues to bless each of you and your ministry for Christ!
In His Service,
/s/Jay Williams
Exec. Director, Sunny Glen Children's Home."

Due to an oversight, Bro. Randolph Jewell's name was not added to our printed directory. Please add his name and address, which is listed in the printed bulletin in the lobby; or ask a member.

Did you know that Jesus called the Scribes and Pharisees: Blind guides, Fools, Serpents, Generation of vipers, Hypocrites. He also likened them to whited sepulchers, and graves which appear not?

Quill Pen From the pen of John Hobbs:

What Do You Know About Jeremiah?

This Wednesday night, September 17, we will start a study of Jeremiah in the adult auditorium Bible class. Everyone is invited. We hope you will join us!

Jeremiah was a great prophet of God. He is known as the "weeping prophet" because he shed so many tears for his people. He also wrote the book of Lamentations which laments the destruction of Jerusalem.

when Jesus asked his disciples, "Who do men say that I am?" They replied: "Some say John the Baptist; some Elijah; and others Jeremiah." There was something about Jesus that reminded men of the prophet of Anathoth. What a tribute to the man behind the book we are going to study! When men looked upon the life of the Son of God, they said, "He is Jeremiah."

Jeremiah was a man acquainted with grief, doubt, disappointment, discouragement, and persecution. No, he was not perfect, yes, he made mistakes, but his message is important and relevant for our times. Our nation and the Lord's Church needs the solemn warnings of this prophet. One message which is written throughout all 52 chapters is that sin always brings judgment.

We hope to see you this Wednesday.
