GOD'S LOVE

God's Love is like an island
In life's ocean vast and wide-
A peaceful, quiet shelter
From the restless, rising tide. . .

God's Love is like an anchor
When the angry billows roll-
A mooring in the storms of life,
A stronghold for the soul. . .

God's Love is like a fortress
And we seek protection there
When the waves of tribulation
Seem to drown us in despair. . .

God's Love is like a harbor
Where our souls can find sweet rest
From the struggle and the tension
Of life's fast and futile quest. . .

God's Love is like a beacon
Burning bright with faith and prayer
And through the changing scenes of life
We can find a HAVEN THERE!

Answer to last week's question.

  • It was David, speaking to his son Solomon, who said, "Be strong and of good courage, and do it." (I Chronicles 28:20) [What Old Testament character said, Be strong and of good courage, and do it...."]

This weeks Bible question:

  • At what place was Saul made the first king of Israel?

Answer next week.

      For Your Information...........

In September, the members of this congregation contributed $200.00 to Lubbock Christian Children's Home for their "Dollar Day" drive. Each dollar donated will feed one child for one day. We can be proud of this.

Beginning in October, we will contribute $200.00 per month to Sunny Glen Christian Children's Home. This arrangement was approved by the elders for a one year period, at which time it will be re-evaluated.
In the meantime, we are all invited to visit with them any time we can. Sunny Glen is in San Benito, Texas in the Rio Grande Valley.

John Mayfield and his crew have completed work on the carport. John, Mike Fergason, Rick Offill and Floyd Mills deserve a great big thank you from all of us.

Quill Pen From the pen of John Hobbs:

"Daily" Religion

The Pharisee in Luke 18 boasted because he fasted twice in a week. Many people today are still using his measure, but once-a-week religion is not enough. Christianity is not like a Sunday vest to be worn only once or twice a week. True Christian religion is a living, personal, communion with God and fellow Christians. A key word in the New Testament describing the activity of Christians is the word "daily". Consider these concepts and Scriptures that Christians are to practice daily.

  1. Daily Cross-Bearing. (Luke 9:23; Luke 14:27)
  2. Daily Bible Study (Luke 9:32; II Timothy 2:14; II Peter 3:18)
  3. Daily Prayer. (Matthew 5:11; Psalms 86:3; Colossians 4:2)
  4. Daily Teaching (Evangelism). (Acts 5:42; Acts 20:3); Matthew 16:55)
  5. Daily Exhortation (Encouragement). Hebrews 3:13; Hebrews 10:24)
  6. Daily Ministration (Service). (Acts 6:1)

What was the result of this "daily" activity by Christians in the first century? The New Testament says they "increased in number daily" (Acts 16:5). They had daily results!

At Ninth and Main, we want to practice "daily" Christianity. We had 99 in services Sunday morning. This is very positive sign. Every member represents a soul that will live forever throughout eternity. I am convinced that with the Lord's help we can plant and water the seed - and God will give the increase (I Corinthians 3:6).
