The San Angelo State School
Volunteer Services Council is having
what they call "Christmas in August".
This is an early start to collecting and
wrapping Christmas gifts for the residents
of the school. Without the work of the
volunteers and donations from citizens.
Some of the residents would not get a gift
at Christmas. If you care to participate,
just call Ed in the church office for more
details, or call the school at 465-2257.

Our second semi-annual Leadership Dinner was a success. We had nearly 50 of our members present, plus a few visitors. The guest speaker was Bro. Morey Mast from Bangs, Texas. He spoke on the works of Nehemiah, and brought out the fact that we must be willing to do whatever the job calls for. Bro. Vinson spoke about our using the talents we are given. He pointed out that we all are given some talent and we must use it as the Lord intends. Bro. Hobbs finished up with a short discussion of church growth. The meal was delicious and we owe Mack and Charlotte a big debt of gratitude for preparing it.

I Asked God
- I asked God to take away my habit.
- He said, no. It is not for Me to take away but for you to give it up.
- I asked God to make my handicapped child whole.
- He said, no. His spirit is whole. His body is only temporary.
- I asked God to grant me patience.
- He said, no. Patience is a byproduct of tribulations: It isn't granted, it is learned.
- I asked God to give me happiness.
- He said, no. I give you blessings; happiness is up to you.
- I asked God to spare me pain.
- He said, no. suffering draws you apart from worldly cares and brings you closer to me.
- I asked God to make my spirit grow.
- He said, no. You must grow on your own! But I will prune you to make you fruitful.
- I asked God for all things that I might enjoy life.
- He said, no. I will give you life so that you can enjoy all things.
- I asked God to help me to love others, as much as He loves me.
- He said. . . . .ahhhhh, finally you have the idea.

From
the pen of John Hobbs: |
What Is Your Attitude To What You Are Taught?
Several years ago in New York, there was a train wreck. The conductor of one of the trains was gasping his last few breaths. He gave a bystander a piece of paper and said, "Take this to the authorities. It will prove that someone gave me the wrong orders."
One lady had just given birth to a baby boy. The baby died when he was ten days old. A denominational preacher told the woman that her infant son was going to hell because it was not baptized (in reality he meant sprinkled) for the remission of sins. The woman was totally devastated. She refuses to darken the door of "any" church building because she was given wrong information. Unfortunately, she is letting the wrong information control her life. These two true stories reveal the need we have to be taught true doctrine and believe the doctrine. In II Peter 3:15-17, Peter teaches that it is possible to "twist" and "pervert" Scripture to our own destruction! We should always check out what is being taught. Just because some preacher says something, that does not make it right. The Bereans "searched the Scriptures daily" to see whether or not what they were taught was true (Acts 17:11). We are told to "prove all things" (I Thess. 5:21). We are commanded to "understand what the will of The Lord is" (Ephesians 5:17). It will be a very sad day when people find out they are going to spend eternity in hell because they followed the wrong information. Let us all dedicate ourselves to be serious students of the Word of God. Let us not follow the "wrong information" that will cost us our eternal souls.

Christian Love,
John Hobbs
