LIVING THE CHRISTIAN LIFE

"God saw all that He had made, and it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning - the sixth day" Gen. 1:31.

Have you ever wondered why God took six days to complete creation? He is capable of instantly producing whatever He wants, but maybe He desires a "work in progress." We often want things complete "by yesterday" and are frustrated when things are slower than we expect.

Each member of God's family is a "work in progress." We often try to place our progress on hold when we choose to do things that are outside of God's will. We intentionally, by sinning, put ourselves in a cabinet marked "unfinished projects." Many of us have closets full of unfinished and forgotten projects which will be thrown away when we die. God never began a work He was not willing to finish but some of His work will be left unfinished due to selfish desires for sin. All of God's "unfinished projects" will be destroyed forever.

Pray for a willing heart to always follow and serve God. Ask for knowledge and guidance in your daily life to grow and mature as He turns you into a wonderful finished product.

Michael Reed

This weeks Bible question:

  • Who was the only Old Testament man who we are told was buried in a coffin?

Answer next week.

Glynn Langston's latest newsletter is on the bulletin board.

Eldertorial:

Cherokee Children's Home

May 31 was a good day that the Lord had made.

We traveled to some of the most beautiful parts of Texas to deliver groceries and other financial gift that Ninth & Main so freely gave the Children's Home.

Good fellowship, singing and a good meal with the brotherhood from around the state and to see all of the gifts of food and other necessities that provide care for the Children's Home.

June 22nd, Brother Hobbs gave a lesson on why we should care for the widows and needy children.

Our Lord commands it, but the greatest gifts come from the heart.

Thank you Ninth & Main or being there for Cherokee Children's Home.

God Bless You,

BAPTISM. . . . . . ..
Young Bobby Sovil of Taylor, Texas came forward for baptism Sunday Night. Although he will not be a member of this congregation, let's pray for spiritual strength for him.

COMING EVENTS

July 06 - Bro. Dennis Reed will be our speaker at P.M. service. He will be speaking about their work in Mexico.
July 07 - Regularly scheduled elder/deacon meeting.
July 13 - Brother Hobbs will be conducting a Gospel Meeting in Arkansas. Brother Jim Vinson will be our speaker for A.M. services. Brother Danny Duggan from Cherokee Children's Home will be our speaker at the P.M. services
July 19 - The Reed family will depart for this year's missionary work in Mexico. The Reeds pay their own personal expenses, but we should give them all financial help we can to pay for their other expenses, such as Bibles, tracts, clothing and building supplies used in their work.
If you wish to help with the work in Mexico, make your check out to the church and mark it for this purpose. Just place your check, along with your regular contribution in the collection plate, or hand it to Velton or one of the elders.
August 3 - Pot-luck Sunday.
August 4- Medina Children's Home grocery truck will be here to pick up PINE SOL. Let's give generously.

Presently, the "Mexico Mission Fund" stands at $485. We still have nearly three weeks to get our donations in. Let's help all we can.

From the pen of John Hobbs:

They Did It Again!

In 1854, the Supreme Court said that black people were not equal with whites. They erred. In 1973, the Supreme Court legalized the murdering of unborn human beings. They erred. Now--in 2003, the Supreme Court said that homosexuality is okay. They erred again.

When I heard this, I immediately thought of Isaiah 5:20. In Isaiah 5:20 god, through Isaiah, said "Woe unto them that call evil good and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter."

The Supreme Court can say what they want but God Almighty has the final say! When we all face God on the Day of Judgment, He will be the judge--not the Supreme court. His word will be the standard of judgment--not their proclamations.

Jesus said, "He that rejecteth me and receiveth not my sayings hath one that judgeth him; the word that I spake, the same shall judge him on the last day"(John 12:48) The Word of God has the final authority---not you or me or the Supreme Court! If we fail to obey the Word of God we will bring judgment and destruction on ourselves. It is important that we learn this lesson now and not when it is impossible to repent (Luke 16:19-31).

Homosexuality is sin (Romans 1:26-28; I Corinthians 6:9-11)! Men can change the labels on sin but God calls it sin!

In Christian Love,
John Hobbs
