ONE AT A TIME

The story is told of a business man who decided to take some time off. While vacationing on the coast, a terrible storm hit. When it died down, he decided to take a walk down the coast to see what damage had been done. As he walked along the shore, he noticed thousands of starfish which had washed up on the shore. He knew that in a few hours the sun would come out and the starfish dry out and die. As he thought about the starfish, he noticed a young boy who was throwing the starfish back one by one. The man was amazed at the boy's diligence and shocked by his feeble attempts to make a difference. As he looked up the long beach, he saw thousands of starfish. When he caught up with the boy, he informed him that he could not possibly save them all and said to the little boy, "You'll never be able to make a difference in the starfish population." The boy picked up a starfish, looked at it and threw it back into the safety of the ocean. Then he said, "I sure made a difference to that one."
We cannot personally make a difference in the lives of everyone that fills this would but we can make a difference to a few of them. It is interesting that when Jesus spoke of those on His right hand on the Day of Judgment, He described them as having made a difference in the life of one person. He said, "Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren ye have done it unto me." (Matt. 25:40). I sincerely believe that each of us can make a difference in the life of someone. This is how Jesus worked - one at a time. Sure, He preached to thousands, but He visited with families, and helped individuals.

NEW MEMBERS

       Trent Kennedy

       Lisa Veazey

Trent and Lisa are engaged to be married next January. Let's make them welcome as we work and worship together.

We are in the process of getting a new roof and other repairs on the building. We ask you to be patient as we go through this unfamiliar process. When ever this work starts, it might be pretty messy around the building until it is finished.

COMING EVENTS

June 21 -

Lance and Crystal's wedding here at Ninth & Main. Reception following.
July 04 - You are invited to Mack and Charlotte Key's place. You need to check with them to see what you can bring.
July 07 - Regularly scheduled elder/deacon meeting.
July 13 - Brother Hobbs will be conducting a Gospel Meeting in Arkansas. Brother Jim Vinson will be our speaker for A.M. services. Brother Danny Duggan from Cherokee Children's Home will be our speaker at the P.M. services

In their meeting on June 2, the elders and deacons evaluated our Missions and our Benevolence funds. This evaluation resulted in no change to our mission funds, but it was decided to discontinue sending money to Medina Children's Home. We will still support their food and clothing drives. The money that we were sending to them will be sent to another Children's Home. If you have a suggestion as to which Children's Home we should support, just tell any one of the elders.

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

Psalm 24:18

Isn't it funny how small our sins seem, but how "big" their sins are.

From the pen of John Hobbs:

IMPORTANT BIBLICAL ISSUES THAT DIVIDE US

Can the church support orphan's homes from the church treasury? Can the church send money to a church that sends money to a missionary? Can the church have Bible classes Can the church use multiple cups (for communion) or must we use "one" cup?

These are very important questions that face us. Unfortunately, our brotherhood has divided over these issues.

This Sunday night, June 22, and then again on June 29, I will present lessons that relate to these important questions.

We must all realize that division is sinful (Galatians 5:16 ff.). We must examine the Bible to answer these questions. I hope you will come Sunday night with your Bible, ready to study. Invite someone to come with you. If you know someone who holds these beliefs, invite them

       May God bless you.

In Christian Love,
John Hobbs

PS: On June 9, 2003, I started my second year at Ninth and Main. I appreciate the love and kindness you have shown to me and my family. Let us all work hard to help the church grow at Ninth and Main church of Christ.
