Others

Lord, help me to live from day to day
              In such a self-forgetful way
That even when I kneel to pray
My prayer will be for others.

Help Me in all the work I do
To ever be sincere and true,
And know that all I do for You
Must needs be done for others.

And when my work on earth is done,
              And my new work in heaven's begun;
May I forget the crown I've won
              While thinking still of others.

       Others, Lord, yes, others;
              Let this my motto be,
Help me to live for others
That I may live like Thee.

Answer to our last BIBLE question:

  • Baal is the pagan god mentioned most often in the Bible. (Mentioned 77 times - NKJV) [What pagan god is mentioned most in the Bible?]

This weeks question:

  • Who in the Bible said "Thy people will be my people?"

        Answer next week.

The Eddie & Margaret Howard has grown considerably. A very generous gift to a very good cause. They report their son has had surgery on his hand and is doing fine. Rehabilitation will take place at either Bethesda Naval Hospital, Maryland or at Camp Pendleton, California.

Lubbock Children's Home is most appreciative of the approximately 45 packages of plastic bags. They are asking us to participate in "Family Dollar Days" in September to raise funds for food for their children. You can get details by calling Ed at the church office.

NEW MEMBERS....

Brother Floyd Mills let it be known that he wishes to work and worship here with us. His address is posted on the bulletin board.

Steven Grimes was baptized into Christ on Sunday. We need to pray for and encourage this young man in every way we can.

"Nothing ruins the truth like stretching it"

Please Help......

Someone has borrowed volumes 33 and 34 of "The Pulpit Commentary" and has had it for quite some time. We encourage you to use this material but ask that you please return it when you have finished your research, so that others will be able to use it.

"Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ.

Thank you so very much for your prayers, caring concern and cards during our brother John's illness and passing. Your encouragement matters more than words can express.

                     In Christian Love,
                     /s/ Carolyn Turk & Mike"

See the Bulletin board for Gayle Cheek's address in Arizona. She will enjoy getting a card from you.

From the pen of John Hobbs:

BIBLE SCHOOL

Are you a regular member of Bible School?

Jesus went to Bible School every week (Luke 4;16). We are told to follow His example (I Peter 2:21)

When Jesus was tempted by Satan three times, He quoted the Old Testament (Matthew 4:1-11). If we are going to be disciple of Jesus (John 8:31), we will study the word of God.

We have Bible classes for all ages!!

Our Bible classes have grown tremendously over the last nine months. I believe they will continue to grow!

There is no substitute for Bible knowledge. We are commanded to grow in knowledge (II Peter 3:18). We will be judged by the word of God(John 12:48).

The word of God can build our faith (Romans 10:17; Acts 0:32, Jude 20). The word of God can keep sin out of our life (Psalms 119:11).

In fact, can you give me one reason why we should not study the Bible? Every Christian, including me, needs to study the word of God.

I am looking forward to seeing your smiling face this Sunday morning...in bible School.

In Christian Love,
John Hobbs
